At Sunbury
State School, we recognise the importance of ensuring children are literate and
numerate by the time they leave us and move on into Year 7. We follow the Australian National Curriculum
which provides for a broad and deep education. Students are engaged in
meaningful, stimulating learning designed to cater for their diverse needs,
with planned programs designed by teachers in consultation with specialist
teachers.
Teachers at
Sunbury State School use the Curriculum into the Classroom (C2C) as a resource
for curriculum delivery across the key leaning areas, which is adapted to suit
the needs of their children in each class. All students participate in learning
activities revolving around the Key Learning Areas of English, Maths, Science,
History, Geography (HASS), the Arts, Music, Technology and PE (Physical Education).
Japanese is also taught in Years 5 and 6, and we offer a rich music and
instrumental curriculum.
Sunbury State
School is committed to implementing a high quality community engagement program
for parents and pre-prep aged children. Our KOALAS program aims to help
children learn about school life as well as parents participating within our
school community right from the start of their child’s education. One of
Sunbury’s excellent teachers, is responsible for organising and implementing
the program supported by a teacher aide all year round.
Sunbury
State School’s Pedagogical Framework underpins our curriculum documents and
policies including our reporting and assessment framework. This document
captures the school's vision and values, and lays the foundation of our
approach to education. At Sunbury our continued focus is on improving academic
achievement for all students by focusing on the teaching of reading in every
classroom every day. Further details can be found in the Sunbury Annual
Implementation Plan.
